Lynn Otis Chapman passed away on December 27, 2017 after a long, happy, and successful life. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on October 28, 1929 to parents Otis and Myrtle Chapman. When he was seven years old, he and his family moved to San Francisco. At 12 years of age, he joined the Boy Scouts and earned his Eagle Scout badge and rose to assistant scout master. He attended Lowell High School where he obtained a great education, was very successful on the track team, and made many close friends that he maintained the rest of his life. He graduated from high school in 1948. In 1951, the Korean War broke out and he was activated in the Air Force. Also in 1951, he met and married Frances Barnes. After leaving the Air Force, he resumed his education and received his MBA from Stanford University. While at Stanford, Lynn and Frances had three children, Gregory Chapman, Bruce Chapman and Debbie Chapman. After his marriage to Frances ended, he met and married Judith Sirbu. They had a very happy and busy life together for almost 30 years, at which time her health failed and took her away from him. During their time together, they enjoyed spending time with Lynn's children and Judith's children, Kenneth and Daniel Fogel, and later with grandchildren Nikki Jones, Trevor Jones, Claire Chapman, Eleanor Chapman, Paula Fogel, and Craig Fogel.
Lynn's 30 years with Raychem Corporation, working in sales, marketing, and management, required extensive travel, and he and Judith (who frequently traveled with him) traveled all over the world. He made many close friendships through his work and very much enjoyed that part of his life. Judith stayed active in many Jewish community groups that kept them very socially active as well.
When Judith's children were grown, they sold their longtime home in Atherton and moved to Menlo Park. After Judith died in 1997, Lynn found many activities to keep him busy, including serving on the San Mateo Grand Jury, playing golf, becoming active in his homeowner's association, including president of the board of directors, and through his social activities with his many lifelong friends.
He met Shirley Fisher in 1999, and they had many happy years together. They traveled to Europe, Hawaii, Mexico and Palm Springs together.
In addition to being a devoted spouse, companion, father, and grandfather, Lynn was an excellent story teller with a great sense of humor and always enjoyed talking and telling jokes to his friends and family.
In the end, he passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family members. He will be missed dearly by his many friends and family members.
Friends and Family are invited to funeral services Sunday December 31, at 2:30 pm at Hills of Eternity Memorial Park, 1301 El Camino Real, Colma, CA. In lieu of flowers, please send any donation to Lowell Alumni Association or charity of your choice.
