Marlene Leah Genson Dickerman, 80, of Daly City, passed from this life on in the early morning of Wednesday, October 16th (17th of Tishrei, 5780). She was preceded in death by Tom, her husband of 53 years, and is survived by her two sons Scott and Dan, her daughter-in-law, Pam, and her grandchildren, Jacob and Tyler. She is also survived by her brother Byron, sister Phyllis, and their families.
Marlene was a teacher throughout her professional and personal life. From the decades of children in her own elementary-school classrooms, to those she tutored in retirement, to the many visitors she lectured as docent at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, or to her own children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, Marlene never stopped teaching all those around her or furthering her own learning. She took unbounded pride in her children's and grandchildren's accomplishments. Her passion for knowledge and for helping others will be felt far and wide and forever.
A funeral will be held, 9:30AM Sunday Oct 20, at Home of Peace, 1299 El Camino Real, Colma CA 94014. In lieu of flowers, mourners are encouraged to donate to any of Marlene's favorite charities: Planned Parenthood, The California Academy of Sciences, Truckee High School Bands (www.thsbands.com), and our local Temples (Peninsula Sinai Congregation and North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation). Also, Mission Hospice has been an invaluable service over the past few months. The family encourages you to select a group that is near to your heart to honor and sustain Marlene's memory.
Marlene Dickerman was a kind and giving woman whose impact was far-reaching. The many who love her will do our best to honor her memory by carrying forward all she has taught us.
