Alfred P. Spivack, M.D.
July 26, 1928 - April 23, 2016
Alfred Spivack, 87, passed away at the Vi Palo Alto. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts and moved to Palo Alto in 1959.
He was a graduate of Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, and received the Alumni Achievement Award in 2014. He had a deep and broad affiliation with Stanford University, serving as the founding Director of the Coronary Care Unit, on the Board of Directors, and as a Clinical Professor Emeritus of Medicine at Stanford University Medical Center. He championed the deeper involvement of nurses in patient care. He was a mentor and adviser to many medical students. He was an avid swimmer, and an inventor and artist, excelling at underwater photography and ceramics. This kind and generous man loved and was loved greatly.
He was a beloved husband to Anita Spivack (m. 1959 to 2000) and a loving partner to Marjorie Crosby; a devoted father to Peter Spivack and Laura Garfinkel; a welcoming in-law to Leonard Garfinkel, Kimberly Spivack, and Mona Sedky; and delighted in being a grandfather to Sarah and Amy Garfinkel and William, Madeleine, Grant, and Taylor Spivack.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel at Hills of Eternity Memorial Park, Colma, on Tuesday, April 26, at 11:00 AM
