Resident of Rossmoor

Rose Davidson Belzer died on January 9th, just one month shy of her 99th birthday. Born in Chicago, the 7th of 11children, Rose and her late husband Mort were longtime residents of Oakland. Rose graduated from UC Berkeley in 1940, and was the force behind Mort when he opened his East Bay Prescription Pharmacy on Pill Hill in Oakland. Rose made sure the business ran smoothly and cracked the whip when Mort needed it! She was active in many organizations. She was both a Boy and Girl Scout leader when her children were young and she always participated in the Oakland Jewish community. Active in Sisterhood, ORT and Hadassah, she was usually the president of organizations in which she was involved. Her proudest achievement was the building of the Reutlinger Community for Jewish Living in Danville. She worked tirelessly on fundraising and even became involved in the kitchen and menu design. She was given the honor of carrying the Torah when Reutlinger opened and was made a permanent board member emeritus.

Rose was an avid game player. She loved Pan, Bridge and mahjongg and continued to participate in her weekly games with her longest standing friends from Oakland until her death. In their younger years, her grandchildren were the beneficiaries of her winnings as when she accumulated $100 she would send it to each of them in chronological order. Additionally, she loved her bus trips to the casino and crossword puzzles.

Rose always loved to cook. She took a course at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and came home a culinary superstar. Her children were dismayed that she hadn't taken this course while they were young, as it would have made dinner time so much more interesting. She often donated dinners as charity auction items, for which bidding was competitive and generous.

Rose loved her Rossmoor community where she moved after Mort died in 1993. She had many friends there, both old and new.

She is survived by her son Robert (Jennifer) and daughter Doreen Warshal (Billy), having been predeceased by her son Steven (Lynn). She leaves behind her beloved grandchildren; Jason Belzer (Sarah), Jesse Warshal (Alison), Mara Belzer, Simon Warshal and 4 great grandsons.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 12, 2018 at 11 AM at Home of Eternity Cemetery, 5000 Piedmont Ave., Oakland. Reception to follow at Rossmoor, Walnut Creek.

If you knew Rose you know she expects you to be at her funeral!

Donations in her memory can be made to The Reutlinger Community, 4000 Camino Tassajara, Danville, CA. 94506
