James E Sochin died peacefully at his home on March 3, 2016. Jim was born on October 29, 1942 in Columbus Ohio.

After many years of a successful career in the hotel and restaurant business , he retired early and followed his creative passions.

Jim traveled the world for work and for pleasure. He was a talented artist. He was a generous and loyal friend. He loved collecting good Scotch.

Through the years Jim received many awards and recognitions for his achievements in business and his many volunteer activities, but his favorite title was "Poppy". His family loved the notes that accompanied every wrapped gift. His phone would ring at all hours from friends around the world calling to ask for advice or just to say hello. He was known for telling his truth, for his stubborn hold on how things should be, for his intense drive to care for his family.

He was loved.

He is survived by his wife Dallas Denise Nichols, Steven Nichols step son, Faith Mcsherry

step daughter Grandchildren Alexander Jackson Mcsherry and Katherine Winter Mcsherry. Also survived by his cousin Barbara Gottlieb and sisters Joan Carol Sochin Forman and Stephanie Nadine Sochin Oram.

A memorial Service will be held at 3pm, March 13, 2016 at Sinai Memorial Chapel 1501 Divisadero St SanFrancisico Ca 94115 .

In lieu of flowers donations should be sent in his memory to the San Francisco Museum of Art.
