Irma Eisenberg passed away peacefully in her home in So. San Francisco on May 19, 2018, with her family by her side. Born in Oakland, CA, on June 9, 1921, to parents Lena and Harry Wurzel, Irma was the youngest of four. She was predeceased by her brothers Victor and Joe, her sister, Margaret, and her husband Mel (1998).

Her family lived in Pacific Grove, San Bruno, San Carlos, San Mateo, and Yakima, WA, before moving to San Francisco. She met her husband, Mel, at a dance at the S.F. Jewish Community Center. They married in 1946 and moved to their home in S.S.F. in 1958.

Irma was a loving mother to Lori Eisenberg McBride (Dennis) of Redwood City and Sheri Landes (Dale) of Rock Hill, SC, and loving grandmother to Cory and Casey McBride and Brian (Sarah) and Katie Landes.

Irma worked at several nearby businesses when her children were young. Their favorite was See's Candies! She also worked at 3 peninsula real estate firms. Her last job before retiring was in appliance customer service at Gemco in S.S.F.

After retirement, Irma spent the next 30 years as an active community volunteer. In May, 2011, she received recognition from the CA State Assembly and Senate for 25 years of service with the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program. She tutored adults through Project Read at the S.S.F. Public Library and also volunteered at the Peninsula Humane Society. Irma volunteered at Kaiser S.S.F. Health Ed. Dept. (over 20 years until 2009 when she was 88). She provided health education resources and took blood pressure readings. Irma and Mel were founding members of the San Bruno Senior Center and both volunteered there for decades. In 2007 Irma was honored with a Certificate of Appreciation from the City of San Bruno for the center's 20th anniversary. She enjoyed the current events and ballroom dance classes.

Her greatest joy was being with family and friends. She loved her dogs and cats, and her grand dogs loved her immensely.

The family appreciates the loving care provided by current caregivers Norie, Maata, Elsie, Virgie and Mele, along with Kaiser's Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner, Jennifer Serafin, and the Kaiser Hospice Team.

A memorial service will be held on Fri., May 25, at 11 a.m. at Home of Peace Cemetery Chapel, Colma, followed by internment at Salem Memorial Park, Colma.

Donations in Irma's honor can be made to the Peninsula Humane Society or Jewish Family and Children's Services.
